Empress DBServer [Empress Software Inc]

Empress DBServer enables EMPRESS RDBMS to be fully distributed across anetwork of homogeneous computers while appearing to the user as if itwere resident on the user's own system. Superior to traditional client-server implementations, Empress DBServer operates in true peer-to-peermode, eliminating the need to segregate "clients" from "servers." Anysystem on the network can be designated as a client, a server, or both,giving greater options to the network manager for load balancing andapplications design. As a result, applications are more efficient andidle machine time is dramatically reduced. In addition, Empress DBServerdoes not require any specific network file system; it relies only on theIP protocol found on all standard UNIX networks.
